OLIVER AND THE

MYSTERY OF SANTA’S

MAGIC KEY

Oliver had been excitedly counting down the days to Christmas on his

calendar, there were only two days to go and he couldn’t wait.

Oliver asked his mother how Santa would deliver his presents as

the new house they had moved to didn’t have a fireplace, his mother

told him not to worry as Santa used a magic key, Oliver

was happy with this until his friend Johnny called at his house later

and told Oliver that Santa’s magic key wouldn’t fit in Oliver’s new

front door, Oliver was a bit worried now, he wondered how Santa

would deliver his presents on Christmas morning.

Oliver thought things over for a while and decided the only way

he could be sure of his presents being delivered was to go and

find Santa and ask about the magic key, so he packed some things

into his backpack including a drink in case he got thirsty and

a sandwich in case he got hungry, he was then ready for his journey.

Oliver had been walking for what felt like a long time when he

Started to feel tired, he thought he would just walk to the next corner

then he would have a rest.

Before he reached the corner a huge gust of wind swirled around

him and he felt he was being whisked high into the evening sky.

Oliver felt like he had been caught up in the swirling wind for a

long time, suddenly, the wind seemed to be blowing less and less

until he landed onto the ground, Oliver felt a little dizzy at first but

then he saw snow on the ground and felt snowflakes landing gently

onto his nose, gosh that’s cold, he thought.

When Oliver looked around he couldn’t see the road he had been

walking on or the corner he had been heading to.

In front of him everything seemed so bright, he saw trees and

bushes that sparkled in the light.

He then heard a faint sound of bells which seemed to be getting louder

and louder and louder until suddenly Oliver was bundled to the

ground, his face was covered in cold wet snow.

He pulled himself up and brushed his clothes down, then he saw

something moving underneath a small heap, first a small bell

appeared which tinkled, attached to the bell was a green pointy

hat, underneath the green hat was a strange

looking person, Oliver had never seen anyone like this before, “hello”

said Oliver, “who are you?”

Oh dear I’m going to be late, Santa won’t be pleased,

oh dear oh dear, what am I going to do,”, he said.

Oliver held out his hand and said “Hello I’m Oliver, what’s your name?”

to this the person smiled and said “Hello there Oliver, my name is

Declan, I’m one of Santa’s little helpers and I’m going to be very late,

so I’d best be on my way, it was very nice meeting you, goodbye.

“Please wait” said Oliver, can I please come with you to see Santa?”

Declan sniffed as he thought about Oliver’s request, “ok” he said

“but lets hurry” otherwise I’ll be in trouble”.

So Declan and Oliver set off to Santa’s workshop, when they arrived

Declan scurried into the workshop and began helping with the

huge amount of toys which needed wrapping in Christmas paper.

Oliver looked around the workshop in amazement there were lots

and lots of different things, cars, games, bikes and planes, “wow” he said,

“it would be good to stay here all night and play”,

But Oliver needed an answer to his problem, he needed to find Santa

and ask if there was a special key to fit his front door,

just then he heard a booming laugh, followed by a ho ho ho, Oliver

turned around and saw Santa standing behind him, “wow, S Santa, h h hello”

stuttered Oliver.

“Good evening Oliver” said Santa, “what brings you here to my workshop,

I’m rather busy at the moment so if you can make it quick I can get on

with my work, would you like a nice hot drink? you look a little chilly”,

“Oh no thank you Santa, I’ve come to ask you how your magic key

works and if it will fit my new front door because i’m worried

you won’t be able to deliver any presents to my house”.

Santa let out a very loud chuckle, “Oliver, said Santa, let me show

you my magic key”, Santa reached under his long white

beard and pulled out a big shiny key
.
“So why is this key magic?” asked Oliver, it just looks big and shiny to me”,

again Santa chuckled, “watch the key closely and you’ll see it change

shape, this is so it can fit in any keyhole in any door, that’s why it’s magic”.

Oliver was very happy now and said to Santa “I have to go home now,

it’s getting late but thank you very much Santa.

Santa replied “Yes, yes you must go home now, I will ask Declan

one of my little helpers to put you on my magic sleigh and take you

home as quickly as possible, but don’t forget, when you go to bed on

Christmas Eve you have to go straight to sleep and no peeking”.

Santa waved goodbye to Oliver and disappeared amongst the toys

and games in the workshop, Oliver set off with Declan on

the magic sleigh and before he knew it he was home.

Oliver went to bed that night a tired but very happy boy because

he knew Santa would be calling at his house on Christmas day.
